It has been more than 10 years since I started venturing into a career opportunity in Malaysia that is not-so-popular back then. Many of the people that I know were telling me I'm crazy (some even think that I'm living in a world of hallucination), when I told them, I wanted to embark on one of the best job and probably the top career opportunity in Malaysia. Hi, my name is David Lim, Jr, and I'm just an ordinary person. I'm neither a space rocket scientist nor a business guru! I'm an ordinary person who wants to live an extraordinary life! Before I discover this job opportunity and perhaps an irresistible business opportunity here in Malaysia, I was jobless for 2 years after my graduation in July 1997! Pride really taken over my employment prospect when I graduated from Curtin University of Technology (Australia)! Desperation kicks in as my pocket as my saving was drying up like Sahara desert. The search began, after an intense search; I finally found myself a career in financial planning sector, on the 14 February 2000. The rest is history…
Today, I am managing a financial planning consultancy with 22 full time financial advisors and annualized revenue of $4,345,837.30. My income was far better than most C.E.O. (the average C.E.O. earns $200,000 per annum after tax), and the freedom I have is greater than many business entrepreneurs – I am sharing with you not to impress you, but you give you an real insight of what you can achieve. Why? When business is down, overhead expenses need to be paid, loan need to be serviced and capital is needed to sustain weak business environments. On the other hand, while a business is growing, many business owners entrap themselves with financial liabilities when borrowing is a must for a growing business, bad debts and longer working are unavoidable.
While I'm writing this message for you, my average financial planners are earning what a bank manager is earning, approximately $60,000 per annum and one of my top financial advisors is earning more than $250,000 per annum. They are merely an ordinary people when they first started, with no capital, no resources and no skill whatsoever. Today, they are living an extraordinary life and their working hours are no more than 5 days a week! If I am precise, they have all the time they wanted, for themselves, hobbies and families.
Today, I am glad I choose what Jobs Almanac coins the career in financial planning as the best career as well as the best business opportunity in the US and part of Asia. I didn't realize that I could build success for myself and groom the best out of ordinary people in the business of financial consultation and corporate planning. Whilst I read the headline that jolted most parts of the world, “World Financial Crisis is Expected Stay for The Year 2009 and 2010” along with stress-inducing stories of rising unemployment, sudden retrenchment, dissatisfaction at work as employees are overpaid, under worked. Every week we get to hear true stories and reports of business going under, declining profit margin for industries, so on so forth. This I believe, people can make two choices in life, to either contribute to such news or do something different TODAY!
In a nutshell, I want my fellow Malaysians out there to know that there is actually a great and satisfying opportunity TODAY and not tomorrow! Great enough that it actually allows you to work no more than 5 days a week, yet earn more than a C.E.O. while having full control over your lifestyle. The main reason why I'm sharing my experience is because during my early years of starting my search for the best job in Malaysia as well as business opportunity in Malaysia, there isn't any reliable yet insightful career guide and/or business starts-up guide for job seekers on how to build a satisfying career that feed your lifestyles. Besides, it is too costly for most people in Malaysia to take up any business or franchise opportunity without a sizeable capital (not to mention sales, marketing and management skills).
Secondly, because I'm sick and tired of watching nice people be taken advantage of and misled by the truckloads of BAD & LOUSY employments that only offer “overwork and underpaid” employment prospects – no kidding, I get emails every week from people complaining about their jobs, office politics and non-rewarding environment. I have personally bump unto many such careers that eat up your life and soul after several years, and trust me, it's not something you really wanna go through (unless you have lease to be alive for 100 years)! When you got into a career and years later you found out it’s eating you up alive, imagine the pain, stress and suffering you have to face up?!!! To be least, based on the surveys that I’ve conducted over the last five years, it’s going to cost you your youth, your health, opportunity that you could have done better elsewhere, tons of frustration, family time neglected and loads of disappointments! On top of that, it brings down your enthusiasm and makes you feel like a ‘loser'!

The fact is, it's not 2000 anymore -- it's already 2009! ... It's not supposed to be HARD to start a career from scratch or change into a new line of career and make it profitable. | REASON # 1: The Malaysian Financial Services Industry has topped $193 billion in 2008 |
If you have been paying attention, you would have come across with 2008 Bank Negara Reports shows that the total of insurance premium collected, unit trust invested and banking services for saving and fixed deposits had exceeded $193 billion and has recorded a growth of 11% per annum for the past 10 years despite economy slowdown in 1998 and 2005.
| REASON #2: The average income per household has increased to $45,200 per annum |
More and more Malaysians have a growing household income. According to the latest banking surveys, there are at least 36% of the working population earns an average of $45,200 per annum. Meanwhile, 9% of the population earns more than $10,000 per month ($120,000 per annum). Besides, Asiaweek Magazine (2005, 2006, 2007) averaged Malaysians’ saving to be 42% (highest rate in South East Asia).
| REASON #3: The average income of an independent financial advisor is $220,580 per year, according to NAMLIFA report (year 2008) |
There are usually two types of financial advisors; salaried and independent. The second type is self- employed as they represent several financial institutions for the necessary products. This category of financial advisors makes an annual income of $220,580 after being 5 years in the industry.
| REASON #4: 82% Malaysian surveyed, indicated that they need some form of financial advice in various aspects of financial planning and personal financial monitoring. |
The Edge Financial Magazine conducted a consumer surveys in July 2007 and December 2008, found out that many Malaysians have lesser time to plan and track their own financial records. Thus, the sample population indicated that they need some form of financial advice pertaining to risk management, retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning and investment planning. Some indicated that they are willing to pay a fee to a professional that could sort out their finances effectively.
| REASON #5: Demand exceeds supply, by 1 out of 2,450! |
According to FPAM (Financial Planning Association of Malaysia) statistic, there are less than 8,000 qualified financial planners able to advice clients professionally in the area of personal financial planning, as of December 2008. Meanwhile, there is 14.4 million working population in Malaysia. In short, this numbers indicate that the industry is facing a shortage! Demand exceeds supply! Even though many financial institutions offering financial advisory, many are single-product advisory. They are ONLY able to advice the customers on the product the institution is promoting and selling. This doesn't warrant them to do financial planning competently.

REASON #6: No.1 Career in USA and East Asia |
Every year, in countries like America, Canada and Australia, there are independent bodies such as JOBS Almanac that rate the best career based on income level, stress level, working duration, career prospect, market outlook and job satisfaction. The results, the best job in USA and Canada (since 2000) is financial planner working independently for themselves. Meanwhile, the best career for Australian since 2003 so happened to be financial planner too (Australian Education Department). Today, financial planner is still standing strong as the top three best careers in the US, Canada, Australia and several East Asian countries such as China, Hong Kong and Singapore. In the year 2009, there is no doubt that this tend already set foot in Malaysia, making this career the best job in Malaysia and perhaps an irresistible business opportunity in Malaysia – requires no capital, no specific qualification, no special skill and no contacts but filled with ample rooms for growth both financially and emotionally. Not giving yourself a chance to review this career is similar to shunning yourself away from financial freedom forever!
